Chocolate Orange Brownies
1 orange
1½ oz walnuts
½ cup (2oz) self-rising flour
½ teaspoon of baking powder
1½ oz cocoa powder
8oz brown sugar
2 eggs
½ cup (8 tablespoons or 4oz) butter or margarine
you will also need a
7inch square shallow baking pan
The ingredients for this brownie recipe should be at room temperature
and the butter soft; so you may need to take the butter out of the
refrigerator several hours before baking or if you’re using
margarine about an hour or so before and the same goes for the eggs.
Then grease and line a 7inch by 7inch baking pan and preheat the
oven to 325°F.
Next break the eggs into a small bowl and beat lightly; finely
chop the walnuts and grate the rind of an orange, then squeeze the
orange to obtain one teaspoonful of juice.
In a separate bowl sift together the flour the baking powder and
the cocoa; then add the soft brown sugar, the finely chopped walnuts
and the grated orange peel and mix together. After this add the
beaten eggs, the butter and the teaspoon of orange juice and beat
together.
Then dollop the brownie mixture into the prepared baking pan, spread
evenly, and bake for about 50 minutes.
Leave in the pan to cool then cut the chocolate orange brownie
into little squares.
